Merlan K. Dosbolayev was born on January 1, 1982, in the village of Saralzhyn, Karatobe District, West Kazakhstan Region. From 1988 to 1999, he studied at the B. Karatayev Secondary School in Saralzhyn. In 2000–2005, he successfully graduated from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, obtaining a qualification as an engineer in the field of radiophysics and electronics. Upon graduation, he was employed as an engineer at the Research Institute of Experimental and Theoretical Physics of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where he currently holds the position of Leading Research Scientist. In 2009, he successfully defended his PhD (Candidate of Sciences) dissertation in plasma physics entitled “Experimental Study of the Properties of Plasma–Dust Structures in a DC Glow Discharge.” In 2016, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor. The results of his scientific research have been published in approximately 160 scientific papers, including 71 articles in international journals indexed in the Thomson Reuters database, and 12 innovation patents have been obtained. His Hirsch index (h-index) according to the Web of Science database is 13. He is a laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Science and Technology named after Al-Farabi (2015), a recipient of the “Best University Lecturer” grant (2015), and a three-time recipient of the State Scholarship of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Talented Young Scientists (2008, 2010, 2013). He has also received the “Best Young Scientist” diploma of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (2014), the independent “Science Leader” award (2016), and the medal commemorating the 125th anniversary of Kanysh Satpayev (2025). Students of the scientific club “Selected Topics in Plasma Physics and Technology,” supervised by M. K. Dosbolayev, have developed several innovative projects that were presented at various exhibitions and awarded prizes. Since 2008, M. K. Dosbolayev has been engaged in teaching activities at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Plasma Physics, Nanotechnology, and Computational Physics. He delivers lectures on the following courses: Electricity and Magnetism, Gas Discharge Physics, Plasma Physics and Diagnostics, Vacuum Physics and Technology, Electrical Machines, Industrial and Power Electronics, Renewable Alternative Energy Sources, and High-Voltage Engineering.
