Professor F.T. Kukeyeva is the founder of an academic school and a pioneer of American Studies in Kazakhstan. Her research interests include the theory and practice of U.S. foreign policy, the foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Central Asian regional studies, and key issues in contemporary international relations. She is the author of more than 300 scholarly publications in national and international journals, including high-impact indexed outlets. In 2014, Professor Kukeyeva contributed to the analytical report “Looking Ahead: Kazakhstan and the United States,” prepared for the U.S. Department of State. From 2011 to 2014, she served as Co-Director of the al-Farabi–Carnegie academic and educational project (Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, USA, and al-Farabi Kazakh National University). Since 2015, she has been coordinating the cooperation program between al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the American Councils for International Education (USA). On Professor Kukeyeva’s initiative, the first Resource Center for American and Democratic Studies (RCADS) in Central Asia was established at al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where she serves as Director. One of the Center’s most successful initiatives has been international Summer Schools for undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students from Central Asia and the United States specializing in American Studies. Professor Kukeyeva actively develops academic and educational cooperation with leading universities and research centers in the United States, China, India, France, Russia, and other countries. She regularly participates in international conferences and seminars and is a recipient of grants from the U.S. Department of State, as well as American, European, and Asian research foundations and programs. F.T. Kukeyeva served as principal investigator of grant-funded projects supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2017, 2018, and 2020 and was twice awarded the title Best University Lecturer (2005, 2014). Her academic and teaching experience totals 33 years. She teaches original courses in International Relations for undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in Russian and English and has developed a specialized course on Central Asia for students from the United States. Under her supervision, 21 candidate, doctoral, and PhD dissertations have been successfully defended.
