German Kim is one of the leading experts on Korean Diasporas in Central Asia and Russia. He graduated Department for History of the Kazakh State University majoring in World History and German Language and received his Ph.D. and Doctor habilitatus of his alma mater. He has written and edited a large number of books and published around 200 papers, originally in his native Russian, but translated into Kazakh, English, Korean, German and Japanese. Of those the three volumes of the History of Korean Immigration are particularly noteworthy on the history of the Korean Diaspora. He presented papers in more than 150 international conferences worldwide. Since 1996 he is the Chief-editor of the journal “Newsletter of Korean Studies of Kazakhstan” and member of the editorial board of several academic journals in USA, South Korea and Turkey. German Kim got many research and field work grants of research foundations and research institutions in South Korea, USA, Japan and other countries. As visiting Professor, he was teaching in the Hanguk University of foreign Studies (Seoul, 2004), in the Institute of Humanities University Michigan, Ann Arbor (2006), Center for Slavic Studies Hokkaido University (2008), Sungshin University (2015) Konkuk University (2015-2019l), University of Kyoto (2019) Under his academic advice over 30 students in Kazakhstan and abroad obtained Master and Ph.D. degrees in Korean diaspora studies and World History. For his academic, educational and social efforts German Kim was awarded the highest governmental title of the “Honored worker of the Republic Kazakhstan” (2007). He was awarded 2009 by the Ministry of Sciences and Education the medal “Merit for outstanding contribution in the development of Sciences in Republic of Kazakhstan”; Golden Medal “Birlik” (Unity) for the outstanding contribution in the Friendship of the peoples of Kazakhstan (2013); Korean Compatriots award of KBS for 2014 in the field of Humanities and Social sciences (2014); Golden Medal "For the outstanding contribution to Kazakh National University" (2014); Mеdal “Civil Merit” (Republic of Korea, 2015); Medal “ 20 Anniversary of Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan”, 2015; Silver Medal of the outstanding Professor of the Kazakh National al-Farabi University. 2016
