Altai Kazmagambetov was born in 1964 in Martuk village, Aktobe Region, into a family of civil servants. After graduating from secondary school in 1981, he began his professional career as a laboratory assistant at the Laboratory of Physical and Mechanical Research of the Research Institute of Construction Materials and Projects (NIIStroyProekt) in Almaty. In 1982, he entered the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography of Abai Kazakh Pedagogical Institute. From 1985 to 1987, he served in the Soviet Armed Forces. After graduating from the institute, he worked as a geography teacher at Secondary School No. 65 in Almaty from 1989 to 1990. From 1990 to 1991, he worked as a lecturer at the Department of Pedagogy of Abai Almaty State University. In December 1991, he entered postgraduate studies at the Department of Pedagogy and, in May 1993, successfully defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation ahead of schedule. From 1993 to 1995, he worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Pedagogy of Abai Almaty State University. From 1995 to 1998, he pursued full-time doctoral studies at the Department of Pedagogy of the same university. In 1999, he defended his doctoral dissertation. From 1999 to 2002, he served as an Associate Professor at the department, and from 2002, as a Professor of the Department of Pedagogy. From February 2001 to September 2004, he served as Academic Secretary and Chairman of Dissertation Council D 14.05.01 for the defense of doctoral dissertations at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Vice President for Science and International Relations at Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University. From September 2006 to November 2007, he served as Vice President and Representative of the President of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University in the Republic of Türkiye, based in Ankara. From November 2007 to April 2008, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Control in the Sphere of Education and Science under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2002–2004, he was a recipient of the State Scientific Scholarship “For Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Science and Technology.” Altai Kazmagambetov is the author of more than 100 scientific articles, 4 monographs, and educational manuals. Under his supervision, 18 Candidate of Sciences and 2 doctoral dissertations were successfully defended.
