Professor of department of world history, historiography and source studies, faculty of history, archaeology and ethnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Doctor of historical sciences, a leading expert in one of the main branches of historical science – recent history of Western countries and an expert on the history of WWII. After graduation from Kokzhyra secondary school in Semipalatinsk region, entered the faculty of history in Kirov Kazakh State University in 1970. Was directed to teaching at Ural Pedagogical University, after graduation from university. She studied a postgraduate program at the Institute of World history of USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow in years 1982-1985, where received a professional training in the Moscow School of German studies and obtained a PhD degree in «World history» in 1986 in Moscow. G.K. Kokebayeva has gone from a senior lecturer, deputy of dean to the head of department during a career in leading universities of Kazakhstan. Founded and was the first head of the department of General history at KazGosZhenPI. Since 2001 has been working at the department of World history of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. G.K. Kokebayeva received a grant from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and passed a scientific internship at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Bochum, Germany) under the lead of the famous German professor B. Bonwich, worked in political archives of the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Military Archives and archives of the Ministry of Security of the former GDR, which resulted in defense of doctoral thesis in «General history». In the thesis the history of the first and second World Wars were united in one subject and a link was a problem of POWs, which was done for the first time in the post-Soviet territory. It is necessary to note that it was the first fundamental study in Kazakhstan on the exploration of government policies and USSR concerning the problem of POWs. G.K. Kokebayeva was actively involved in scientific exploration works in foreign archives and libraries as part of the state program “Cultural Heritage” of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As a result of her hard work, Kazakhstani archives were supplemented with materials from European archives and libraries. Professor G.K.
