Svetlana Shnaider is an archaeologist specializing in the ancient history of Central Asia.
She conducts research on Paleolithic and Neolithic sites across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, including the high mountain regions of the Pamirs and the Alay
Valley. Her work focuses on the adaptation of ancient communities and the application of
bioarchaeological methods.
She is one of the leading researchers who introduced and developed the ZooMS (Zooarchaeology
by Mass Spectrometry) method in Central Asia for identifying animal remains and studying
domestication processes. She established and directs a ZooMS laboratory platform within the
framework of international collaboration between the CNRS and the Institute of Archaeology
and Ethnography SB RAS.
Svetlana Shnaider is the author and co-author of more than 250 scientific publications,
including about 50 indexed in Scopus, with an h-index of 14 in Scopus. She is also a co-
author of three monographs devoted to the archaeology of Central Asia and the evolution of
ancient cultures in the region.
Her work bridges field archaeology, laboratory science, and international collaboration,
contributing to the advancement of interdisciplinary approaches in the study of ancient
humans and their environments.
