Talanov Yevgeny Alexandrovich, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor. In 1973, he successfully completed his studies in the specialty "Land Hydrology" and was awarded the qualification of Engineer-Hydrologist. He was assigned to work for more than 20 years at the Complex Debris Flow Expedition of the Debris Flow Department of the Kazakh Scientific Research Hydrometeorological Institute (KazNIGMI). He was engaged in studying the conditions of formation of flash floods and debris flows in various mountainous regions of the Caucasus, Tien Shan, Pamir, Southwestern and Eastern Siberia, and the Far East. In 1994, he defended his Candidate of Sciences (PhD) dissertation on the topic "Statistical Patterns of Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Rainfall in Mountainous Regions of Kazakhstan" in the specialty 11.00.09 – Meteorology, Climatology, and Agrometeorology. From September 1995, he worked as a senior lecturer, associate professor, and head of the Department of Geoecology and Environmental Monitoring (2006–2007) at the Faculty of Geography of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. From 2008 to 2010, he held the position of associate professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Geoecology, and since 2010, he has been working at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology. His research interests cover the problem of desertification/land degradation. He develops methods for regional assessment of ecological-economic risk of losses from natural hazardous phenomena (water erosion, debris flows). He deals with issues of modeling and forecasting extreme hydrometeorological phenomena, as well as assessing possible changes in geoecosystems under anthropogenic impact. In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Ecological-Geomorphological Foundations for Assessing the Risk of Erosion-Debris Flow Processes in the Mountain-Plain System." Author of more than 100 scientific works, including 5 monographs and textbooks. He has publications in journals indexed in Scopus. Talanov Ye.A. participates in the implementation of grant-funded scientific projects of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He is an expert for the United Nations Development Programme on the sustainable development program from the perspective of priority actions for disaster risk reduction. Talanov Ye.A. was awarded the professional medals of S.M. Fleishman and “100 years of the Kazakhstan Hydrometeorological Service”.
